UK Data Consulting Rates, Published In Full

Data consulting prices are hard to find online. This page publishes the UK benchmarks, the four ways to buy, and our own prices.

    What You Will Pay

Published UK data consulting rates sit between £490 and £575 a day, depending on which benchmark you read and which role it counts. All four below were taken on 22 September 2026, and every figure on this page carries its source and its date, including ours: dataflos publishes its prices here rather than making you ask.

Buying the same capability as a service is not cheaper per day, and on these numbers it is not cheaper per year either. What the fee buys instead is three specialisms rather than one, cover when somebody is away, and no recruitment to run. The comparison below sets all four options side by side so you can judge that trade yourself.

UK Data Consulting Rates In 2026

Four readings of UK data consulting rates, all taken on 22 September 2026. They are not four independent sources: two are different roles from the same publisher, and the fourth is our own data.

    SourceFigureSamplePeriod
    ITJobsWatch, Data Consultant, contract£575 a day, median117 quoted day rates, 190 vacancies6 months to 22 Sep 2026
    ITJobsWatch, Data Engineer, contract£500 a day, median1,264 quoted day rates, 1,897 vacancies6 months to 22 Sep 2026
    YunoJuno, Data & Analytics£501 a day, averageplatform booking records2026 report, 2025 data
dataflos Contract Radar£490 a day, median393 day rates on the data track60 days to 18 Sep 2026

Two things are worth knowing about that table. The consultant end of the market has risen sharply this year: ITJobsWatch has the Data Consultant median up 15.0% year on year, from £500. The engineer end has not moved.

The second is about us. Our own figure is the lowest of the four. That is the direction you would expect a vendor's number to be wrong in, so read the three third-party rows as the market and ours as corroboration.

Seniority spreads the number widely. YunoJuno's 2026 report breaks the same discipline into £390 a day at midweight, £505 at senior, £525 at lead and £650 at director.

Outside the UK the picture is different again. WebFX puts big data consulting at $200 to $350 an hour in 2026. Clutch, reading its own directory on 21 September 2026, puts business intelligence and analytics projects at $10,000 to $49,999, with United States hourly rates at $100 to $149. Clutch publishes no United Kingdom band.

The Four Ways To Buy It

    Hire in-houseCommission a projectEngage a contractorEmbed a team
What you pay£80,000 a year base, the ITJobsWatch median for a permanent data consultant in the 6 months to 22 Sep 2026, before employer National Insurance, pension and equipmentA fixed project fee. Clutch puts typical BI and analytics projects at $10,000 to $49,999£490 to £575 a day across the published benchmarks, so roughly £10,800 to £12,650 a month at 22 working days£12,950 a month plus £5,300 setup
What you getOne person, full time, who learns your business properlyA defined build, delivered and handed overOne pair of senior hands, working to your directionA strategist, an engineer and an analyst working as one unit
What it hidesRecruitment takes months, and the role sits empty while it does. One person is also one point of failureThe engagement ends at handover. Changes after that are a new scope and a new feeNo cover when they are ill or away. You supply the directionA monthly commitment, and the people are ours rather than yours
When it is rightData work reliably fills a full-time role and you can afford to waitThe scope is genuinely fixed and finiteYou know what you need built and can direct it yourselfYou need a function rather than a person, and you need it running now

None of the four is right in every case. If data work reliably fills a full-time role and you can wait to fill it, hiring wins on cost, and we will tell you so. If your data is the product you sell rather than something you run the business on, build in-house. The case for the last column is not that it is the cheapest line: it is that it covers three specialisms at once and starts without a hiring round.

    What dataflos Charges

Our prices are on this page because we could not find many competitors publishing theirs, and because a buyer who cannot budget before a sales call usually does not book one.

    Kickstart

A fixed-scope build from £8,130. Agree the metrics, connect the sources, and ship the first dashboards from a model built once.

    Fractional Data Team

£12,950 a month plus £5,300 setup. Three specialists working as one unit, shipping a change every week.

    Fractional Data COO

£10,538 a month, for when the need is leadership in your management meeting rather than build.

The Fractional Data Team is the data analytics consultancy engagement, and it is what builds and runs business intelligence and dashboards.

Set those against the benchmark. At £490 a day, one contractor working full time costs about £10,800 a month over 22 working days, and gives you one person with no cover. The Fractional Data Team costs more than that. What the difference buys is three specialisms, a weekly delivery cadence and no recruitment to run.

A large consultancy is a different order of number again. ConsultingDemand puts Big Four day rates at $1,500 to $4,000 per consultant in 2026, and the Big Three at $3,500 to $8,000 and above, across the United States and Western Europe and quoted in dollars. That is per consultant, and a Big Four team is rarely one person.

    What Moves The Price

Four things, in the order we usually see them move a quote.

    1. How many sources

Connecting six systems is not six times the work of connecting one, but neither is it the same work. In our experience the sources nobody has modelled before are where a first build runs long.

    2. How settled your definitions are

If finance and marketing already agree what a qualified lead is, the build is quick. If they do not, the work is agreeing it. That is a conversation, not a pipeline.

    3. Whether anything already exists

Inheriting a warehouse that works is cheaper than starting clean. Inheriting one that half works is sometimes dearer than both.

    4. How often it has to change

A dashboard nobody touches is a one-off cost. Reporting your business actually runs on needs someone whose job it is to keep it true. That is what a retainer buys and a project does not.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How much does data consulting cost in the UK?

Published data consulting rates in the UK sit between £490 and £575 a day, from ITJobsWatch, YunoJuno and our own Contract Radar, all read on 22 September 2026. Those are medians and averages of different populations, so treat the band as the spread of the headline figures rather than one rate. Fixed-scope builds at dataflos start from £8,130. The embedded team is £12,950 a month plus £5,300 setup.

Why is it so hard to find data consulting prices online?

Scopes differ, and a single number invites the wrong comparison, which is a fair reason not to publish one. The cost is that a buyer cannot budget before a sales call. We publish ours with the benchmark beside them, so you can judge the number rather than extract it.

Is a fractional data team cheaper than hiring?

No, and we would rather say so. A full-time hire at the £80,000 median base costs less than our fee annualised, and so does a single contractor at the benchmark rate. If data work genuinely fills a full-time role and you can wait to hire, hiring wins on cost. The retainer is for the case where it does not: three specialisms at once, cover while somebody is away, and no vacancy to carry in the meantime.

What does the setup fee cover?

Connecting your sources and modelling your metrics once, properly, before the monthly work begins. It is charged once, at the start of a Fractional Data Team engagement.

Do you work in currencies other than pounds?

No. Contracts are in pounds sterling, and every price on this page is quoted in pounds. If you need an indicative conversion for a budget, ask on the call and we will give you one at the rate on the day.

Trust the data. Don't debate it.
